Christian’s first YMCA Executive Leadership position was in Manchester, Tennessee, where he had the opportunity to start a small-town YMCA from the ground up. During his three years in Tennessee, he established a Board of Directors, guided the organization through its YMCA and IRS 501(c)(3) chartering process, raised capital start-up funds, and oversaw the construction of a new YMCA facility.

In Fort Wayne, Indiana, Christian served as Branch Executive Director at two of their facilities. He was tasked with opening their flagship and largest branch, the Parkview YMCA. At Parkview, Christian formed the branch’s first volunteer Advisory Board team, built the staff, conducted their inaugural Annual Campaign, and positioned the branch for capital expansion within its first 14 months of operation. The Parkview YMCA, with over 17,000 members, achieved a surplus of nearly $1,000,000 in its first operating year.

In Christian’s most recent role in Birmingham, Alabama, he held the positions of Downtown Branch Executive and the Association’s Director of Development. Christian utilized his skillset in Board Development, Annual Campaigns, Capital readiness, and Community Development to elevate the branch to a new level of community engagement and service.

In Birmingham, Christian played a crucial role in leading the Association to a record-breaking Annual Campaign, despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 Pandemic. In 2020 the Birmingham Association has raised over $1,100,000 in contributed Annual Campaign dollars. His Downtown branch has consistently led the Association in total funds raised, the total number of campaigners, and the percentage of members who are donors.
In Birmingham, Christian has also been actively involved in the Capital Campaign readiness and feasibility process, strategic planning, and has led numerous community stakeholder initiatives. Christian serves on the NAYDO Hot Topics committee for the 2020 and 2021 conferences.

Christian holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire, as well as a Master’s Degree from Springfield College in Recreation Management. His interests include gardening, hiking, and spending time with his wife of 30 years, Robin, and his 28-year-old son, Graham.
